About

The Santuario is located in Cabo Rojo, and it is the first animal sanctuary in western Puerto Rico. We are also one of four shelters on the island where euthanasia is not applied due to lack of space or time awaiting adoption.

The Santuario is organized as a nonprofit corporation and headed by a Board of Directors which is fully engaged in its day to day affairs. The Santuario is qualified as a tax-exempt organization pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code and Section 1101.01(a)(2) of the Puerto Rico Internal Revenue Code.

We work diligently to find homes for the dogs and cats that we have in our care; those who are not adopted live permanently at the Santuario. There, they will receive the care and love they need to lead full, happy, and active lives. Through our work, we directly impact close to a thousand animals a year through rescue and rehabilitation, along with community assistance to pet guardians in need. All help and donations are most needed and welcome.

The organization operates in great part thanks to contributions that are 100% dedicated to the care and welfare of our animals. To continue this work, we depend on supporters like you to give us a hand by joining our team of volunteers, joining our foster home network, donating, or adopting one of our residents.
